As a reward to ourselves for a job well done, we decided to stay in a Parador, which is an upscale hotel here in Santiago and located throughout Spain.
Certainly every country has fine hotels but one of the very cool things about these is their history. Ours, El Hostal Reyes Católicos de Santiago de Compostela was originally built in 1499 as a hospital for Pilgrims.

The Spanish government started buying up and converting properties in the 1920’s focusing on those rich in cultural heritage and adding infrastructure such as roads and services to support them.

This is our room, and the view from the window just outside it.

There are at least three of them along the Camino Frances (the route we took) and we had the possibility to stay in a couple of them, but I wanted to keep it as something unique and special in recognition of our completion.

If you have the opportunity to stay in one, I’d highly recommend it.
